The Inside Connection - Long Island, NY

by Jeanne
March 2002 Issue

The Inside Connection is NY's attempt at an industry-tailored publication. Free of charge in your favorite music stores and neighborhood bars, InsideCx is a professional, detailed, no frills publication that includes sections for Publicity, Attorney issues, Radio Promotions, Publishing, Product Reviews, and all this with a spotlight on Long Island.

The cover story for this particular issues details "Huver's Road To Success". If you too are wondering who Huver are, you're not alone- and this isn't particularly rare for the InsideCx. They march to their own beat; one that sometimes appears to be a bit off the beaten track. Other lesser known artists that receive press here: Shannon McNally (a LIer who will be making a name for herself this summer on the road with John Mellencamp), Gerardo (an A&R Rep for Interscope, who just so happens to be Mr. "Rico Suave" himself), and the grand poobah of interestingly named acts, Apoptygma Berzerk (that's Apop to you dance fans). Lest you believe that this mag makes a name for itself only with the obscure, behold Ill Nino, Natalie Merchant, Dishwalla, Grand Funk Railroad, and a feature interview with The Strokes.

There is no raw wit, there is no schtick: there's just raw footage. If you're in a band looking for tips from the pros or just a nosey music-lover who'll read anything that's free (writer raises her hand here), then there's no faulting the staff of The Inside Connection. They're providing Long Island with it's own music industry trade magazine- and that's pretty darn uplifting to me.
