"Black Roses" - Painkiller Hotel
Painkiller Hotel - Black Roses It is simply commercial-grade, homogenized pop rock. My prediction is that it will be wildly popular in a year or two.

Alien Guitar Abduction - Bigfoot Lives!
Alien Guitar Abduction - Bigfoot Lives! Are aliens abducting guitars for interstellar rock experiments?  Are alien guitars abducting humans for unnecessary and humiliating cavity searches?  In the darkest recesses of my brain, I secretly hoped for the latter...

Brogdon, Justin (Justin Brogdon) Self Titled Album
You’ve got to have a lot of faith in yourself to self-title your album. After all, if no one knows your name, then who cares?  I’m here to tell you that you should care about Justin Brogdon’s album

Broken Poets - Optimism in E Minor
From the moment I put this CD in to play, I liked it.  Jim H. McDonald (vocals/guitars/bass) is a terrific songwriter.  And he's got a fabulous voice.

Convergence - Points of View
Every time I hear this album it kicks more and more ass.

deSol On My Way
You know how sometimes a song just reaches out and grabs you and you almost feel like you've heard it dozens of times and it's even known out of the box it's a great friend? The title song on this album "On My Way" is exactly like that.  I didn't even want to listen to the rest of the album, I just wanted to set my CD on repeat for that song.

Destination: Oblivion - December Sun
This album affected me so severely that I am physically pained by my struggle to find exactly the right words to use in my review of it.

Down The Line: For All You Break
This is the third full-length album for Down the Line, and the first I’ve heard.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t excite me much and I have no urge to go out and find the first two.

Ferrari, Dan (Dan Ferrari) - Don't Let it Fall

Smack dab in the middle between “blah” and “hell yes” of your dictionary is where you’ll find the word “eh”.  Just kidding, you won’t.  I don’t think.  Nonetheless, it’s a great word for things like cornflakes, the color beige, and Dan Ferrari’s album “Don’t Let it Fall.

Further Down - 7 Years Hard Luck
In general, I like this album and the sound of Further Down. Their sound is reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd or Nickelback with hints here and there of the bluesy rock of Tesla and The Black Crowes. They have a heavy guitar and heavy drum sound back up by a kickass piano. Make no mistake, this is southern rock.

Lucky Day - Rise and Fall
I was definitely looking forward to listening to Lucky Day's newly released and second album, “Rise & Fall".  Their press releases and website both promised reggae and psychedelic influences, so I figured I’d be happily surprised by a very different and eclectic sound.

Mambo Sons - Racket of Three
There ain't no mambo in the Mambo Sons. There's just some more of the same unrealized garage rock. Adolescent lyrics rip off age-old rock 'n' roll clichés only to squeeze them into the most ...

Michelangelo - Future Perfect
The cover photo of Michelangelo's Future Perfect might win "Best CD Cover Photo" from Maxim magazine. The music, however, is anything less than inspired.

Scene of Action – self-titled
This Berkeley based alternative band’s debut album is an ear pleasing mix of bass-driven, guitar-riffing sound with brainy lyrics and a few dashes of artsy melancholy thrown in.

Seasons of the Wolf
This is an album I wanted to like.  I go for the cheesy werewolves in shadow box playing guitars and the Elvira wannabe on the cover.

Silent Fate - The Autumn Machine
Let’s put it out on the table. The only reason I'm reviewing this CD is because they covered Duran Duran's "Come Undone" and hell if I was going to let anyone else get their hands on it.

Springfield, Rick (Rick Springfield) - The Early Sound City Sessions
If someone asked me when Rick Springfield's landmark album Working Class Dog was released, I would've pegged it at 1983. Songs like "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers" are such pure 1980's radio pop, after all.

Telepopmusik - Angel Music

Voegele, Kate (Kate Voegele) - Don't Look Away
Sometimes it's harder to review the things you do like than those you don't.  You reach a point of just wanting to listen and enjoy rather than dissecting the music.  So I'll do my best.  I like this album.  Enough to tell you to go buy it. Now.

Whitney, Beth (Beth Whitney) - Leave Your Shoes

Her voice is peppermint syrup...sweet, flawless, sinuous.  Her lyrics are all at once profound yet divinely simple, and simply divine.  Her album is exquisite from start to finish.
