![]() | Bayside - Sirens and condolescences | |
| Location | Long Island, NY | |
| Initial Impression | More of the pop-punk/emo craze… | |
| Notable Lyric | "Take this razor, sign your name across my wrist so everyone will know who left me like this." | |
| Factoid | Formed in 2000, the band has undergone various line-up changes, but seem complete with the current line-up of vocalist/guitarist Anthony, bassist Andrew, guitarist Jack, and drummer Jim. Prior to this, their debut full-length, Bayside have put out a split EP with Name Taken. | |
| Serve With | Cranked up on your convertible's stereo while driving somewhere far away. | |
| Comments | Pop-infused melodic rock with extremely hurt, troubling lyrics as a result of failed relationships. Disturbing images of wounds (self-inflicted or otherwise), scars, blood, cutting (with razors, knives), and tearing abound. The disc alternates between quicker, more pop-punk leaning tunes like the opener "Masterpiece", "Phone Call from Poland", and "Kellum", while others are slower, including "A Synonym for Acquiesce" and "If You're Bored", but no matter what, the pop element is omnipresent. Some of the finest tracks include the opener "Masterpiece", "Alcohol and Altar Boys", which is harder and darker (quite fitting, when taking into account the dismal, depressing lyrics), and the final offering "Guardrail". Emotional, but musically, rather tame - for fans of bands such as Armor For Sleep, Spitalfield, and The Goodwill. | |
