| Initial Impression | Since there was a mailing snafu, and it took like three months to reach me, my intial impression was... "Dang, it finally found me!" | |
| Notable Lyric | "Peel me off a piece of your tongue. So that I never forget the way I tang." from "Closet Lover". | |
| Factoid | Delay Janas has played with national artists "Twice The Sun" and "Groovenics". | |
| Serve With | A Wonka Bar (hey one of the guys is wearing a Wonka T in their promo pick). | |
| Comments | Delay Janas displays heavier-edged music that is somewhat disconcerting. While their attempts at creating a sound that can be enjoyed by everyone is admirable, I have a hard time imagining my mother or anyone into singer/songwriters digging on this stuff. Not that that's bad, or any means of measuring the music -- My point is that creating music that will appeal to everyone is pretty much an impossible undertaking. I fear that these attempts might inevitably pull the band away from their strengths and prevent them from finding a focus. Their driving guitar sounds are great, the vocals are interesting and strong and the rhythm and percussion manage to carry the sound along. But the regressions throughout the songs that attempt to bring in a more pop-edge slightly pull the attention away from these strengths. I think if the band were to stick with that harder sound they'll find they already have the skills necessary to take it to the next level. | |
