![]() | The Goodwill - That Was a Moment | |
| Initial Impression | February 8 -Oh crap, the street date for this is Feb 11?? Damn, damn, damn.... | |
| Notable Lyric | "Let me hide between the sheets you used to cover up my scars" from "The Boy Scout." | |
| Factoid | The photos in the CD booklet seem to tell a story about the course of a relationship; from adoration to contentment to dissention to termination. | |
| Serve With | A long giggle-infested telephone conversation about that cute guy you've got a crush on. | |
| Comments | Truth be told, I'm not a fan of power-pop-punk, finding it repetitive and over exposed, but The Goodwill was tolerable. More than tolerable. Thankfully, Brian Barbuto's vocals lack the incessant nasal whinyness of NFG or the faux machismo of Good Charlotte. A collection of songs about girls like Crystal, Jenny and Jess are flanked by odes to betrayed friendships ("Brethren" and "Broken"). Interestly enough, even songs about yearning, love, melancholy and regret are delivered with the perky up-tempo bounce we've come to expect from this style: only "Broken" breaks this monotony with a full-bodied emotional plea of "my best friend threw me away without a reason". Nothing ground-breaking here, but that doesn't mean Victory Records couldn't take notice. | |
