![]() | Philip Kane - Songs for Swinging Lovers | |
| Location | London, England | |
| Initial Impression | Hello! Did you READ the title? I'm not sure what I expected, but I figured something akin to Prince's "Darling Nikki". Then I noticed the noose on the CD label and realized I was thinking of a totally different type of "swinging". | |
| Notable Lyric | "Your life can be saved by stupid pop music." from the entertaining "Me, the ladyboy and Gloria Estefan". | |
| Factoid | Kane gained some recognition with his previous release "Hangover Square". | |
| Serve With | My original thought (again based on the title) was sex toys, but instead I think some serious therapy might be the order of the day. | |
| Comments | Much of the lyrical content of these deceptively beautiful songs center around pain, bitterness and heartbreak. The exception being the aforementioned track which at first blush, bops along with an almost Wings' "Silly Love Song" vibe that found me wigglin' in my bathtub (this would explain my water smudged notes). The rest of the CD is much more sultry, carried along by poetic lyrics which lull the listener into a false sense of security. This is aided by Kane's honest, pure, and soulful vocals. It's smooth as buttahh! | |
