![]() | Amen Ra - Bloom | |
| Location | Boston | |
| Initial Impression | What the heck is "kinetic world-infused trip hop?!" One of their songs is called "Unsuccessful Sperm". Interesting… | |
| Notable Lyric | "Lost and shy the day she arrived/Bags on her shoulder and fear in her eyes/She left her youth in search of the truth/Lady love she jumped into the night/But still she's new to this world/And someone's gotta help her keep her hold." | |
| Factoid | Amun Ra is Egyptian for "king of gods." They were named a "Band to Watch in 2004" by the Boston Globe. | |
| Serve With | Norah Jones, Dido. | |
| Comments | It wouldn’t be fair to Amun Ra to try to classify them in any genre, for they have a unique sound that piques the curiosity of jazz and soul lovers alike, but I wasn’t too sure what to think of their blend of jazz, soul, and electronica. However, I enjoyed "Spiritual Expedition", which sounded more hip-hop than trip hop, and "El Zahf" because of the awesome bassline throughout. Emily Shirley’s voice in all of its purity kept me listening to Bloom. I look forward to seeing how their sound develops on their sophomore CD. | |
