Siam - Siam
LocationPomona, CA (at least at the time of Siam's initial incarnation back in the '70s).
Initial ImpressionFemale-fronted classic hard rock.
Notable Lyric""What's going down all around this town?/Ain't nothing for free, except maybe me."
FactoidAs aforementioned, the band was first formed in the '70s and came back into existence in the '80s. Lead vocalist Bonnie Bishop didn't join the band until 1989.
Serve WithBig hair, ripped jeans, leather jacket, air guitar optional.
CommentsQuality hard rock with a splash of metal. Bonnie's vocals are powerful and tough, while still maintaining a sense of beauty, backed by some talented musicians. The songs are old compositions and the band even used instruments from the '70s and '80s when recording the album in order to keep it real. Sometimes it sounds a bit self-indulgent (i.e. the noodling, the overly-long songs, jamband feel at times), but overall it's solid - and this coming from a not-so-impressed-by-hard-rock kind of girl. Highlights are the slower, more emotional "Wolves of the Dawn", which is rather calm until midway through the song when it really builds up and gets heavier; "The Legend" and the sleazy "Take My Hand" with all their glorious toughness; and the songs that feature dual male/female vocals like the latter and "Rock Me Siam". Is that an ode to themselves?!
