The Elected- Me FirstFeb 2004
If you are looking for an album to listen to while writing that awful research paper or studying for that killer exam, I have the one for you. Me First from The Elected offers great mellow songs that definitely cannot fit neatly into any genre. With sounds ranging from country to folk to alternative this album is definitely one of the more interesting I have been privileged to review.
This album flows from track to track flawlessly and seamlessly. Amazing instrumentals and the great vocals of Blake Sennett make this a great record to just hang out to. Along with the "normal" instruments that one expects to hear from a rock record, The Elected utilizes keys, lap steel, harmonica, violin, synthesizer, and bassoon among others. Usually, I tend to cringe with an excess of instruments, however they are used quite effectively and not overpoweringly.
Once again, college students (or just students in general), pick up this record. Especially do so if you are a fan of Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service, or even Radiohead. You will have a definite appreciation for this record (Sub Pop).
