The Features – Exhibit A

by Sally
March 2005

Rather than lyrics, the inside cover of The Features' second album, Exhibit A, fold out to reveal a surreal-looking picture of two camels, a pair of pouty toddlers, and the band: drummer Rollum Haas, bassist Roger Dabbs, guitarist and vocalist Matt Pelham, and keyboardist Parrish Yaw. The CD reveals music of the same wave-length – eclectic, fun, spontaneous, quirky, and intriguing.

Don't fear when you hear that the boys hail from Tennessee; more and more rock bands are emerging from the great music state. The Features, three of whom have been perfecting their musical togetherness since the innocent age of 13, are further proof that Tennesse isn't just for country & western anymore.

The psychedelic rock album starts out with a bang with the title track "Exhibit A" and continues to capture the listener's heart as they apply their style to a love ballad ("The Idea of Growing Old"), a song about girl problems ("Me & the Skirts"), and plenty of other standard song themes, but with a funky, fresh twist to the lyrics and music.

The Features' Exhibit A is a true treat to the rock 'n' roll lover's ears and feet with throwbacks to The Doors, updated with a forward-moving, almost pop, almost punk edge. The Features' Exhibit A is a "can't miss" no matter what your musical preference may be.
