| Comments | Though a little too calm and pop for this reviewer's personal liking, it is true The Tuesday Suits defy what one would initially think of this NYC-based four-piece, namely that they're one of a horde of bands playing what is now (and has been for a while) trendy and rehashed "hip" garage rock. Au contraire, they play a blend of endearing indie rock and Brit-pop that should be well-received by indie fans all over. Ryan Gannon's somewhat smooth yet raspy vocals - oddly enough - recall The Pietasters' Steve Jackson, especially on soul-infused songs like "If You Love Me, Take the Train" and "Miss Wyoming". They mix up tempos and tones well, as they have some more upbeat, energetic tunes (the standout "If This Night Is Dark", the fun and enthusiastic opener "The Melancholy Snipers", "Jewels & Binoculars") and more sedate fare (the final two offerings, for example, "A Season in Hell" - no, not the D.O.A. song! - and the extremely light and mellow "The Good Times", which features Gannon's pleasant voice atop a sole, delicate acoustic guitar). | |
