![]() | Call Me Alice - Sweet New Disease | |
| Location | San Diego, California | |
| Initial Impression | Wait, this guy is - Blue? His name is - Augustine? And the other members are named The Thrawl, Jude, Crosby and Epiphany? ...Alright. | |
| Notable Lyric | "If I like it, am I wrong?" from "Ballad of the Thrawn." | |
| Factoid | This is a first in Score! written history. Unable to preview every disc that comes through here, I was intrigued enough by Call Me Alice to sneak a listen before I packed it off to Siren May. Within twenty seconds, I used my editorial discretion to claim it as my own. | |
| Serve With | Blade Runner, Mother Goose and the video game Sanitarium. | |
| Comments | Immediately I drew similarities to Orgy and keyboard-era Rush in "Queen", while "Fly" is a powerful rock industrial cover of the children's song "I knew an old lady who swallowed a fly". Track three, "Ballad of the Thrawn", starts with operatic male vocals, hits an electronic rock stride then successfully implements a tango-esque rhythm and spanish lyrics. Crosby's voice sometimes reminds me of "Rain" and "Frozen"-era Madonna, and even engages in light rapping in "Speed". Every song on this disc is dance-able, and much more user friendly than your usual bass-heavy techno nastiness. | |
