Saucebox - Grow Up
LocationDover, Ohio
Initial ImpressionMy good GAWD these boys have been through a lot of line-up changes!
Notable Lyric"Another bar tab to cover and a drunk white trash girl for a lover" from "Momma Let Me Go."
FactoidIt seems that every time I hit Annabelle's to see Phestur, these guys are on the same bill!
Serve WithA ruthless producer to make the necessary cuts.
CommentsLive, this band comes off as complete punk cacaphony, and the Pro-American lyrics and harsh edge of "Sacrifice" lean in that direction. However, the bulk of this disc is much more straight-ahead guitar-driven, gritty rock; "Momma Let Me Go" and "Back Off" even stray into the redneck rock category, while "Again" hints at 80's progressive rock ala REM and Stone Roses. To be honest, half the tracks on this CD are above average while half are sub-par. Saucebox would've better served themselves and their fans if they would've been detached enough to see some of the tracks' mediocrity and released either an EP or waited to release the full-length album.
