![]() | Ken Tamplin and Friends - Wake the Nations | |
| Location | Santa Ana Heights, California | |
| Initial Impression | With a list of guest artists that includes Ritchie Kotzen (Mr. Big and Poison), Pete Lesperence (Harem Scarem), Reb Beach (Winger), Kee Marvello (Europe) and Marty Friedman (Megadeth) I expected some 80's rock. | |
| Notable Lyric | "Cell Phone Freaks" is my favorite song, with its comical yet true commentary on the generation of cell phone users. Tamplin exclaims "Hey you, talking to you, why don't you get a clue…this generation's so strange." | |
| Factoid | Ken Tamplin has spent much of his successful career producing scores for movies like Inspector Gadget and The Perfect Storm. | |
| Serve With | Big hair, men in tight leather pants, and some youth gone wild (not to be confused with the infamous "Girls Gone Wild"). | |
| Comments | I expected some kick ass 80's rock, and that's exactly what Tamplin delivers. Each song has a blistering guitar solo that rivals the best the 80's ever had to offer. At 65 minutes in length, the 15 tracks offer everything from traditional rock ballads ("God in Heaven"), to rock anthems like "We've Jihad Enough". Tamplin is a superb singer (and musician, for that matter) with a deep, rich voice missing in today's punk inspired rock scene. Songwriting seems to come easily to Tamplin, who muses on different subjects varying from love, to politics, to "7 Eleven People". The CD, though only a promotional copy, sounds polished and it flows flawlessly from track to track. Just when I thought the 80's were dead, they are reincarnated through Tamplin's Wake the Nations. | |
