Feed - Feed

January 2003

I would like to apologize in advance if this review becomes a bit redundant, but listening to the CD all I could think was Elvis Costello! It is not so much that the music is completely reminiscent of the man, I believe it to be mostly the lead singer and guitarist Adam Perry's vocal ability. As far as the music itself, I must say it would definitely be difficult to categorize this band into a specific genre. If a gun was put to my head and I were forced to, I would call it relaxed alterna-indie rock.

Feed has great guitar riffs and minimal machine born sounds (personally, I find this quite refreshing). Back to the basics, it is just a great rock record that has some damn amusing lyrics. One of my favorite lines from the album comes from the song "Dream Job For A Good Girl": "Maybe some day she'll get a good job selling shoes to amputees." Many of the songs seem to be in the style of Elvis Costello with a twist. "Rabbit", to me, sounds like it is a perfect mixture of Costello, Ben Kweller, and the Foo Fighters.

All in all, I would highly recommend this record to alternative rock fans. Feed offers tremendous musical talent and amazing vocals wrapped nicely into one package. Completely unpretentious and devoid of modern rock synthesizers, it is a simple record that captures the spirit of indie rock.
