Hurl Soul Bridge - Which is Your Way?
LocationMassachusetts, though their sound is true to their Southern roots.
Initial ImpressionI thought I had died and gone to musical heaven.
Notable Lyric"I woke up early this morning…the thunder alarm clock was rolling…the sun was talking too loud…I rolled over, asleep in a cloud" from Track 8, "Driftin."
FactoidKyle Lawrence, the band's bass player, graduated from Berklee with a degree in Music Business by the time he was twenty.
Serve WithWith soft, seductive ballads mixed in with bluegrass and rock, there really isn't anything that wouldn't go with Hurl Soul Bridge – except for stale, corporate pop. Steer clear of the stale and musty. Bring along some Southern Comfort for the ride.
CommentsThe first track…no, I take that back – the first five seconds into the first track "Mountain Song" had me hooked. As a farm girl transplanted into the city with redneck family still going to the Galax Fiddler's Convention year after rainy year, the bluegrass sounds of Hurl Soul Bridge shocked me. I read their press-kit which claimed to have bluegrass influences, but I certainly never expected the high caliber talent that is on this CD. The vocals are slow and sexy when they need to be, and powerfully evocative when the song demands. Musically, the band has a lot of depth, which makes for a fun and entertaining CD.
