![]() | Sixty Stories - Anthem Red | |
| Location | Winnipeg | |
| Initial Impression | By the look of the minimal red sleeve with white sketches, it seems like it might be a little arty. | |
| Notable Lyric | "Nightmares stay with me like grass stains on knees of kids who have fun because they don't care about their clothes/I am too young to feel this boring, and too young to care about grass stains, to feel this lonely all the time." | |
| Factoid | Drummer Paul Furgale used to be in Painted Thin. The band formed in 1999, and have toured with the likes of Propagandhi and Atom and His Package, and have opened for Samiam and Fugazi as well. | |
| Serve With | Skateboarding on the boardwalk of Coney Island. | |
| Comments | Sixty Stories give us twelve tracks of catchy, upbeat indie/pop-punk with distinctive sounding vocals and guitars from Jo Snyder. The lyrics are thoughtful, sometimes quirky ("Countdown"), liberating and hopeful ("Quit My Job"), but also reflective and serious ("Less of Me," "Jessica," "A Letter From Mom," and the socially-aware "Wet Cement"). This three-piece, also featuring the distorted bass of Sarah Sangster and drummer Paul Furgale, utilizes organs and keyboards to add more texture to their songs along the lines of the Reunion Show. | |
