![]() | The Locust - Plague Soundscapes | |
| Location | San Diego | |
| Initial Impression | With song titles like "Who Wants a Dose of the Clap?," "Priest with the Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Get Out of My Bed," "Anything Jesus Does, I Can Do Better," "Wet Dream War Machine," that are just plain wrong but oh so darkly humorous, this must be something else. | |
| Notable Lyric | Indecipherable. Simply indecipherable...no kidding...I have no idea what singer/bassist Justin Pearson is screaming. | |
| Factoid | Formed in 1995 by members of hardcore bands Struggle and Swing Kids, but since then the line-up has undergone quite a few changes. Their musical aim is to "change the way people look at music, or maybe just destroy it in general." | |
| Serve With | Straight jackets, helmets, and rooms with padded walls. | |
| Comments | The Locust miraculously perform twenty-three songs in a mind-bending 21:03. Not surprisingly, more often than not the songs don't surpass the one minute mark. The music on Plague Soundscapes is just maniacal, frantic, abrasive hardcore punk - simply put, complete and utter chaos. Pearson's urgent screams (did I mention they were indecipherable?) cut through the insanely fast, hard, experimental music. Extra texture is supplied by Joey Karam's cosmic-like, atonal keyboards. The Locust is sure to cause some mental breakdowns with this disc. | |
