![]() | Two Thirty Eight - You Should Be Living | |
| Location | Pensacola, FL | |
| Initial Impression | I don't know why but I was expecting a Matchbox 20 clone. Again with the lesson that things are not always what they appear. | |
| Notable Lyric | "I'm quite worked up by you tonight and I can't even sleep, so here I am." - "The Bathroom is a Creepy Place for Pictures of Your Friends". | |
| Factoid | In leiu of a factoid I wanted to share this description: "...unstoppably powerful foursome of finesse, temperance and malcontent functionalism". | |
| Serve With | Let them eat cake! (See album cover). | |
| Comments | Original modern pop-rock songs relating stories from band break ups, finding one's place in the world, blue collar life and workin' for da man to being true to oneself. With that said, the first band that came to mind when I listened to this CD, based solely on the first track vocals ("Modern Day Prayer" -- which incidentally is probably their heaviest song and can be sampled simply by visiting their website) was The Hooters. Or maybe The Outfield. By track two ("The Sticks are Woven in the Spokes") I was hearing a bit of The Plimsouls -- another not so modern band I realize. Once you make your way to "Forty Hour Increments" you start to taste the more unique flavors of the band. They have a way of taking the listener down to a very mellow low and then right back up again with an angsty energy in a single song. The subject matter is a little on the "unhappy" side, but the band does manage to keep it all out of the gloom and doom by tossing in some groovy beats. | |
