| Comments | Sevenout play alt-rock/pop that lacks bite and an edge. Though there are some "tougher" songs like "Back on You" and "Daydream", they're still pretty tame. Overall, the feel of the record is rather mellow, but there are some upbeat tunes like the Gin Blossoms-esque opener "Round" and "Forever", while slower more heartfelt offerings come in the form of "Bobbie Jo" and the finale, the bittersweet ballad "Away from You". "Got to" sounds oddly familiar and is one of the standouts on the album, as it's a bit slower, but powerful in an emotional sense and highlights singer/guitarist Shane McGregor's gritty vocals. Not a bad release by any means and fans of mellow rock will most likely dig Sevenout, but quite frankly, it's been done before and they don't really bring anything new to the genre. | |
