BEST OF SEVEN - Everything is New Again

The band Best of Seven, formed in 2002, are attempting to show off more of their musical talents on their new album Everything is New Again. A five-song CD, but after a few moments you may be wondering if you are still listening to the first song. Not to say they aren't good; it is. There is just nothing outstanding when it comes to their music. I can't say I would stop on the radio station if I heard them, not sure if I would even notice them at first. The songs have rougher, first draft feel to them, and it is hard to tell if that was their intent. The overall sound is similar to what is already out in the music world. Not saying there isn't talent, but the lack of presence and appeal isn't as strong as it could be.

The lyrics have a simple feel to them. None of the songs could pull your emotions to the surface. The band's voices mix well with each other, but once again they were just good. If you are a person who likes to sing along, then only "Baby Love You" may have you doing that. It happens to be the only song on the album which isn't written by band member Shane Tassart. His best-written song would have to be "Wonder", and after a while you find yourself enjoying it.

When all is said and done, do they have a chance to make a hit? Sad to say, not with what is on Everything is New Again. That doesn't mean we should forget them about them. Who knows, in the future they may really finally find their own sound and stick with it. They are a work in progress and usually that type of work tends to get better. I wouldn't count them out, but I also wouldn't rush out to buy this CD.
