Corrosion of Conformity - In the Arms of God |
| Location | North Carolina |
| Initial Impression | The first studio album from this acclaimed Southern
metal/hardcore/sludge/Southern rock hybrid in five years.
|
| Notable Lyric | "If the blood that you're pumping is heartless/And you
can't seem to make up your mind/And your soul is shrouded in
darkness/Just like you're dying for the very first time..."
|
| Factoid | COC have been together for over 20 years, releasing their
first
album in '83, the crossover gem Eye for an Eye. They just
wrapped up a North American tour with none other than the mighty
MOTORHEAD.
|
| Serve With | Danzig, Nuclear Assault, Crowbar.

| Comments | Dark, heavy, threatening, and unrelenting, these guys mean
business on this incredibly strong album. The band's latest fuses all
they've done in the past: we get thrashy goodness, hardcore bursts,
psychedelic moments, sludge and doom, and some bluesy inflections
(perhaps due to "guest" drummer Stanton Moore of Galactic) - oftentimes
with each composition featuring a handful of these elements. In any
case, mix all this with intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics, and
well,
you couldn't really ask for anything more. Personal favorites are the
alternating thrashy/hardcore "Paranoid Opioid"; the slow,
sludgy, depressing "It Is that Way"; the acoustic-based,
conflicted-sounding, extremely powerful "Rise River Rise"; the
balls-to-the-wall "Infinite War"; and the monstrous, tempestuous,
resounding closing track, "In the Arms of God".
