| Comments | You have to give Overkill credit. They've survived for over 20
years
and all of them still have most of their hair. ReliXIV is
Overkill's fourteenth studio effort and their tried and true formula
shines through once again. Overkill is not going to win over any new fans
with this album as Bobby "Blitz" Ellworth's voice is akin to a bag of
salt and vinegar chips: it's an acquired taste. Sure his voice is a
little bitter, but it's better than those dull rice cakes. However,
Overkill's loyal fanbase will be pleased with this collection of 10
double-bass-pumping and guitar-shredding songs. Several songs, like "A
Pound of Flesh", have an old-school, Anthrax-type of vibe. Speaking of
the old school, Overkill closes the album with the track "Old School",
a
tribute to the good ol' days. This is a surprisingly catchy punked-up
tune and even features legendary metal DJ/VJ Eddie Trunk doing some
voice-over work. If the pure thrashing thing would have failed Overkill
in the early days, they could have been a decent metal/punk crossover
band. So, if you're part of the faithful Overkill audience, pick this
one up. If not, go buy a package of rice cakes instead.
