SARAH RABDAU - Benevolent Apollo
LocationBoston, MA
Initial ImpressionWhoa, it's Tori and Sarah McLachlan in one!
Notable Lyric"Why does everyone seek stardom to fuck it?"
FactoidNearly the entire album was co-produced by Eric Jalbert on an overworked Mac G3, but you'd never know that from hearing it.
Serve With A void.
CommentsA very put-together debut encased in solid beats by young singer/songwriter/pianist Sarah Rabdau, who takes her inspiration from the music of Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos; she sort of falls comfortably between the two. Her deep lyrics talk about confusion, loss of identity, seclusion, and loss of trust, but then her last song, "So Many Millions", is positive and inspirational, telling the listener to appreciate the simpler, more beautiful aspects of life without getting onto the fast track. The production of this album is very well done; the beats make the songs more interesting but don’t overwhelm them. She fuses soulful R&B, chill-out music, and her femininity, resulting in an album that is well-rounded, down to earth, and sexy.
