Please Mr. Gravedigger – Throw a Beat (EP) |
| Location | San Diego, California |
| Initial Impression | Sweet garage punk. |
| Notable Lyric | "Hello, darling I'm here to please." – "Wales"
|
| Factoid | Made up of former As I Lay Dying members |
| Serve With | The '60s, '70s, and The Blood Brothers. |
| Comments | The words punk and dance together usually conjure up images of flailing
arms, swinging elbows, and bloodshed. Please Mr. Gravedigger changes
that with their "Throw a Beat" EP on Pluto Records. They combine '60s
garage-rock riffs with borderline hardcore punk, color it up with some
keys, and add the occasional female vocal for an all-out dance party,
minus the blood. These five tracks (in particular "Seventeen Year Old
Piece of Gold") are shiny gems just waiting to be uncovered. These songs
will undoubtedly get your head bobbing - save for the slightly annoying
hidden track, this is one damn fine EP.
