| Location | Seattle | |
| Initial Impression | According to the press kit, Porter Harp "create[s] a sound that appeals to the over 30 crowd weaned on '70s rock, which the kids can dig too." | |
| Notable Lyric | "Chase these sad scenes before my eyes/ Cos I can no longer hide the things I despise/ Wait and be there, waiting for me/ Wait and be there, waiting for me." | |
| Factoid | The record was among the top 20 "Most Added" in CMJ's Music Report. | |
| Serve With | A pillow, liquor of your choice - something pretty strong, preferably. | |
| Comments | Drinking Season is full of mellow, achingly slow, long, drawn-out wistful songs that can best be classified as adult rock. As the album progresses, Porter Harp and his cohorts delve more into country territory, but still, nothing really stands out. More than half of the offerings exceed the five-minute mark, and unfortunately, I found my mind wandering as early as the middle of the first song. The only (somewhat) upbeat offerings are "I Wish You Well," the country-tinged "Old Man," and the thankfully short "S. Nashville Blues." However, in the end, the songs are just repetitive and forgettable. | |
