![]() | Mappari – The Firecracker EP | |
| Location | Boston | |
| Initial Impression | Yeah! Something up-beat and not scary! | |
| Notable Lyric | “Break out the bomb if you’ve got the strength if you got the arms to light the fuse.” From “It Matters” (We’d like to note that at first listen we thought they were saying “Break out the bong” — We like our version better!) | |
| Factoid | Mappari’s name is derived from a geographical word meaning “where sound never dies”. | |
| Serve With | Since our minds managed to go there, we'll say some herb! If you're into that kind of thing... (CYA: Score! Music Magazine does not condone or promote the use of illegal drugs! Drugs are bad mmmkay? Our lawyer made us say that!) | |
| Comments | “It Matters” had a really strong Dave Matthews vocal, while “Rise” was a bit more Adam Duritz-ey. We preferred their harder, more rock offerings found on “Don’t be Afraid” and “Annie Glazebrooke”, which sounds a lot like early 80s rock, post-new wave, pre-hairband. Kind of in the vein of Billy Squire, Donny Iris and Loverboy, which contrasts the singer-songwriter nature of “It Matters” and “Rise”. “Damage” on the other hand takes that Dave Matthews vocal and ties it in with a rock band sound, which blends smoothly. | |
