Mourning Maxwell - Yesterday's Gone
LocationTempe, AZ
Initial ImpressionDammit, more of that infernal pop punk infesting commercial radio and video channels as of late.
Notable Lyric"I want this as bad as you do, I'm not gonna lie. The only problem is, you're drunk and I'm high," from "Next Morning."
FactoidNot surprisingly, they've played with everyone from Sum 41 to New Found Glory to Thursday to Voo Doo Glow Skulls, and had a slot on the Ernie Ball stage at the 2002 Warped Tour. They also did a concert benefiting Habitat For Humanity.
Serve WithAccording to State Press Magazine, the guys need a van to tour in support of this album. Anyone got a spare?
CommentsIn the presskit, another reviewer compared Mourning Maxwell to 311 and Sublime. Although our first inclination was the writer needs to stop smoking crack, "Next Morning" and "Water Fountain" were the band's redemption (see above lyric). Our suggestion would be to concentrate on those aspects of the band not currently comparable to Blink 182 et al, aka the straight ahead rock and reggae sounds made popular by Brad Nowell and company. However, if they've grown attached to this derivative genre, we recommend they get their butts signed, make their cash and invest quickly before the next fad comes along.
