| Comments | Josh Todd has one of those unmistakable voices, a cross between the howl of an angry cougar and a laringytic, hard-drinking and smoking barfly. Hooking up with a band of much younger members, Josh states a desire for a more 'modern' sound, which he achieves with this debut disc. The lyrics are dotted with dark imagery of depression, frustration, drug abuse and suicide, but the always rolling riffs keep the songs from becoming dreary. The weakest part of this disc is when Todd caves to the latest musical trend, offering up barking screams instead of his usual powerful sing-song style. Fortunately those lapses are few and far between. Fans of Todd's previous project may resist this album because it's not an attempt to make Buckerry, version 2.0 but the pure rock energy is sure to gradually pull you in. | |
