The Deadly – The Wolves Are Here Again
LocationPhilly
Initial ImpressionSuper-fast, super-short chaotic hardcore? Well, that’s what one fathoms from the initial track, at least!
Notable Lyric"I had to go all the way/Not just minor acts of misbehaving/Played the game/And robbed a man of all his arms and his legs/I didn't mean what I said/Now I pray I don't wake up in flames."
FactoidThe Deadly formed in 2001 and features members of the highly-respected band Turmoil. According to guitarist Jon Hodges, they’re in a weird position, as lead vocalist Rich Lippold lives in Texas now whilst the rest of the band call Philly home, so touring is kinda tough – but don't rule it out. They intend to get out and do some damage.
Serve WithHodges says he's been greatly influenced by bands on Gravity Records, so yeah, some Heroin, Clikatat Ikatowi…
CommentsThe Deadly's debut LP is teeming with 13 hectic and chaotic hardcore tunes with a real sense of immediacy, what with all the great screamed, frantic vocals care of Lippold and inventive, unpredictable instrumentation. It's heavy, abrasive, and relentless, just as it should be. And though, as aforementioned, the four-piece trick us at first with a 40-second burst of craziness, they have more up their collective sleeve than spitting out a 10-minute album that's over before you know it, but instead sprinkle some truly memorable and impressive, edgy, well-structured songs in there. Personal favorites are the impeccable, perhaps SLIGHTLY less harsh "We Are the Technology"; the definitely NOT less harsh "Fastest Animal", which is just FERAL; “"ake Me Rich"; "The Poor Kids"; "Passion Major"; the finale "Ringfingers" – um… I can see where this is headed. Forget it!
