| Location | Dayton, Ohio | |
| Initial Impression | Perched at a little bar called No Excuses, Kimmie and I cased the joint, including this simply adorable blonde guy who we hoped was a band member. Our suspicions were confirmed when he began hauling gear, and my attentions were completely captured when he began jamming to Butch Walker blaring through the house speakers. Turned out to be crooner Bobby West. | |
| Notable Lyric | "I made the sacrifice of loving her where dreamers fall." | |
| Factoid | I have a blog entry about these guys (read it!). | |
| Serve With | JD and Dr. Pepper (our pre-party libation), Butch Walker’s Left of Self-Centered , and Night Ranger’s greatest hits. | |
| Comments | From the night I received it, this CD had found a semi-permanent home in my car. Everytime I popped it in, I thought guiltily “I really have to write that review!” Red Earth has that great summer rock sensibility that all of us pre-melancholy-early-90s music fans long to have screaming out of our vehicles on a bright beautiful day. Where “Bottle of Wine” possesses one of those must sing along hooks, “So Impossible” adds great harmonies and Goo Goo Dolls-like sensibilities. While there are moments of descent into 80’s lyrical cheese, the lapse can be forgiven in the wake of their overall fun melodic rock vibe. | |
