Carole King - The Living Room Tour |
| Location | She's a Supah-stahhh |
| Initial Impression | When I was visiting Cristy's place, she whipped this CD out and exclaimed..."Look what we got!" to which I responded enthusiastically, "No way! That's excellent!" |
| Notable Lyric | "You were as unexpected as roses in the snow." - "Loving You Forever" |
| Factoid | Once the feminist movement was in full-swing Carole stopped performing "Where You Lead I Will Follow" live. It wasn't until she was approached by the creator of Gilmore Girls, asking permission to use the song, that Carole and Toni Stern re-wrote it with a mother and daughter focus. The song was re-recorded with Carole and daughter Louise singing the newly-empowered words. This is the version she currently plays live. |
| Serve With | A lazy afternoon on the hammock (with or without a boy). |
| Comments | Let's see how many clichés I can place in one review, shall we? Carole King is incredible. She's a strong, beautiful, woman - unassuming and un-afraid to admit her age. Her music is timeless, marking childhood memories, first kisses, break-ups, love, loss, and a celebration of life. The Living Room Tour is a two-CD set filled with 20 songs, a medley of hits written with Gerry Goffin (Some of which I wasn't aware she had created), and King's own observations, performed live in a fabulous commemoration of her timeless and legendary music. As the title suggests, this CD is as comfortable as your favorite T-shirt. Carole's amazing voice moves one to tears, laughter, and longing - a feat that can only be accomplished by someone who pours their entire being into the music. Thank you Carole King, for 40 (40!) years, give or take, overflowing with your emotion, humor, comfort, and longing nostalgia. |
