Mardo performed a healthy set of their "If it works don't fix it"
brand of music for San Berdoo, promoting their self-titled debut album
Mardo, and while supporting Violent Femmes.
It is very likely that the score of people who came out to see Violent
Femmes unexpectedly got their souls vaccinated by Mardo's show, which
included a fine song from The Temptations: "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone".
Singer/bassist, Aron Mardo, played his heart out through the set, while
his brother Robbie exhibited exceptional drum work - hitting 'em hard -
with the random, precision aggression of a young Keith Moon. Rob Small
is a fine guitar player, who can play a lightning fast lead or sustain a
note, while making it bleed beautifully. A core component of Mardo,
which gives them their slick '70s sound, is the keyboards, which are
beautifully handled by young Sonny Sly.
Mardo exemplify what is (and what was) rock 'n' roll, not only in
appearance and attitude, but with a live sound that is saturated with
power and outstanding musicianship. Their approach to the art of live is
wide open, full throttle, and really fun.
