![]() | Figure Four - Suffering The Loss | |
| Location | The bio says Quebec, but the website says Winnipeg (Canada). | |
| Initial Impression | I wish I could have seen the look on Siren Cristy's face when she popped this bad boy in. I wonder how quickly it took her to decide to send it to me. | |
| Notable Lyric | "I made one decision, and it changed everything," from "Follow." I think we've all experienced a moment like that at some point. | |
| Factoid | They've got a female guitar player. Metal chicks rule! | |
| Serve With | Chloraseptic throat spray. | |
| Comments | I've come to the conclusion that heavy metal and hardcore music are essentially identical; the only difference being the style of vocals and possibly the song themes. By song 5 ("The Cycle"), I found myself daydreaming, wondering what the songs would sound like if you removed the vocals and used them with speed metal vocals, 80s-style. A couple songs managed to break up the screaming monotony by including near-whisper background vocals ("Suffocation," "Kill And Deceive," "Miles Away") and "We Were Invincible" had a sassy little low-end bass line that definitely broke up the song. When you have a band that bellows like this, you're forced to focus on the lyrics, rather than the vocals. In this case, the recurring themes are loss, suffering, and sacrifice (unlike a band like Hatebreed, whose message of perseverance and determination worked better for me). While I don't necessarily dislike Figure Four- the more I listen, the more they grow on me -I'd probably relegate them more to background music than to something I'd totally jam to. | |
