![]() | Communique - Poison Arrows | |
| Location | Oakland | |
| Initial Impression | Infectious, dance-y, fun indie/punk with a nice dollop of pop. | |
| Notable Lyric | "On the road I'm on my own/A tired and restless soul/As I've aged most dreams and loves have died away/But I still wake to find you next to me/Babe you've got my heart." | |
| Factoid | Four of the guys of Communique previously did time in the punk band American Steel. The band is now rounded out by keyboardist Cory Gowan. | |
| Serve With | Miles of open road, a club with plenty of dance space, or a subdued candlelit evening with your significant other. | |
| Comments | After releasing the EP A Crescent Honeymoon, the guys of the fabulously-named Communique are back with their impressive full-length debut, Poison Arrows, a stylish, well-produced 10-song affair. Poppy indie rock is evident throughout the record - some songs are keyboard-driven ("My Bay", the intricate and catchy "Evaporate", "Ouija Me"), some are more placid (the tender, lulling finale "Rattling Bones"; the laid-back "Strays" with its bittersweet lyrics including those mentioned above), while still others are more energetic (the highly danceable opener "The Best Lies"; "Perfect Weapon", which possesses a very '80s vibe; "Dagger Vision"). But whatever feel or tone each song possesses, they're all worth a listen. | |
