Disciple - DISCIPLE
by

Today is the first day of the rest of my life
I stand on broken chains that held this bitter slave
Coldhearted, you hater, love me now so you leave me later
Deceiver, so clever, Jezebel couldn't do much better …
From "Backstabber"

Though they have been together for over a decade, *Disciple* has just
begun to taste commercial success. Their recently released, self-titled
album is likely to do well simply because it is a great record, with
fine musicianship and well-written songs. This four-piece band has put
together a hard rock act that is contemporary sounding with facets of
alternative metal, yet their sound has an indescribable quality as well.
Disciple has lots of groove, hard-hitting rhythms, clean
guitar work, and - get this metalheads - clean vocals by Kevin Young, a
very talented singer, who doesn't do the pharyngeal overload, cookie
monster thing.
Standout tracks include "The Wait is Over", "Rise Up", "Worth It All",
"Beautiful", and the slashing "Backstabber", a real headbanger, which
showcases what the whole band can do. Played live and loud it would
certainly incite some frenetic movement in the middle of the floor.
Disciple is a high-powered record from a higher-powered band.
Its lyrics are all inclusive, whether you be Christian or
agnostic, black, white, Swedish death metal-head, or just stuck on the
fence. I believe the band's intent was to rock us, not rebuke us.
