![]() | Brendan Breen - More Than Ever | |
| Location | Cleveland, OH | |
| Initial Impression | His press photo here conveys a certain amount of hopeful apprehension, kinda like a puppy that wants you to take him home with you. | |
| Notable Lyric | "I want you to stay one more night, we’ll stay up late, I’ll kiss your body." - Speak Tonight | |
| Factoid | He’s involved with a compilation CD that will contain a track by one of my favorite bands, Julius Bragg. Brendan keeps good company. | |
| Serve With | Almonds - it’s what I’m snacking on at the moment. | |
| Comments | Opening track “Better Day” conjures up images of highschool football games in small town America. Moody “One Last Time” brings to mind the patter of rain on pavement during an exceptionally quiet autumn night, interrupted only by the occasional car passing through a shallow puddle. “More Than Ever” is the rising wind, rustling leaves and ripples in standing water. “Speak Tonight” is a guaranteed wedding song, or at the very least, the song you cue up to slow dance with your honey in the middle of your living room. Brendan isn’t afraid to experiment with sparse empty space as demonstrated in “Isolation Room” and “Train." The careful use of strings, bongos and rockabilly (think early John Mellencamp) electrics separates this CD from others of its genre. Brendan Breen has been making music for a long time - and it shows. | |
