Crimson Rain - Passion and Pain
LocationAkron, Ohio
Initial ImpressionOne look at the promo photo and the CD insert and it’s obvious drummer Dan Phillips has that sultry rocker guy thing working overtime.
Notable Lyric“To give you this life is all I can do.” - "Something Like From a Dream"
FactoidThe album was produced by Neil Zaza. Kimmie did a fine imitation of “ZAhhhh Zahhhhh ... (in her deep monster truck voice...) Party with the BIG boys!” (Ohio people know what I’m talking about!)
Serve WithHow about a date for my neice?
CommentsIt’s impossible not be impressed by this package considering their age (The PRESS package - get your mind out of the gutter!). They’re damn cute, these boys, and James Hardy can croon a love song like a pro. The first verse and chorus of opening track “Never Say Goodbye” comes across like an old phonograph record; crackles, distant tinny vocals and all, before morphing into a gentle acoustic-based ballad. Evan and Jaron’s hit “Crazy for This Girl” echoes on more than one track, as well as vocal harmonies notable in most 80's power ballads. Passion and Pain is a collection of radio friendly, singalong pop songs - remember Nelson’s first record? - 80's melodic rock stripped down to its modern midwestern roots. Neil Zaza could’ve picked worse proteges.
