Lake Boone - Lake Boone

by Kate Westrich
October 2003

From Boston, Massachusetts, Lake Boone seems to hail back to early-nineties, west coast rock in most of their new self-titled album. Because of this, the pop song “I’m Alive” with upbeat lyrics and music and the jazzy feel of “Look Around” stand out among the more run-of-the-mill tunes.

In what would be a slightly above-average album is one huge pitfall. Lake Boone does a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s oft-covered “Time After Time,” with nothing new added to it. While probably a fun addition to a live set, this song does nothing for the album.

My favorite part of Lake Boone, which merits comment, is their album (pop) art which starts out good on the cover but is pure art on the inside. Using retro images of women in bathing suits with song lyrics surrounding them creates a perfect case for the CD.
