A18 - Dear Furious
LocationSoCal
Initial ImpressionHaving interviewed guitarist Mike, I kinda already knew A18 play totally aggressive, heavy, old-school hardcore.
Notable Lyric"If we meet resistance prepare to fight/We didn't come this far to give up."
FactoidAt the time of our conversation, singer Isaac was leaving the band and the guys were gearing up to try out some potential new vocalists. Sorry to say, but I seriously have no idea what has come of the matter... Nevertheless, back then Isaac was purportedly going to help the new singer out in order to make the transition between vocalists easier. As a result, Mike's outlook about the band's future was positive. Also, for those unknowing souls, A18 stands for the 18th Amendment - Prohibition of Intoxicating Liquors.
Serve WithAdrenaline, sweat, and yes, be prepared to shed some blood.
CommentsDear Furious is the quartet's third full-length and drenched in sheer brutality: thick, heavy guitars, thunderous bass, blistering drum work, and tough, yelled vocals are the norm. Hardcore the way it should be. Ridiculously heavy breakdowns rear their ugly head throughout the record, as at the conclusion of the title track and "Heartbreak Affiliated"; and gang vocals, as witnessed on "Beating a Dead Horse", happily make an appearance. Just through the lyrics, the instrumentation, and the presentation, it's apparent these guys' hearts are in it - for them (some of whom were in renowned bands prior to forming A18), hardcore is NOT a passing trend. As Isaac sings on "Beating a Dead Horse", "If it's all the same to you, I'll be here until the last heart runs dry/This time if anything means more and less the same it's called devotion/This cost me everything, there's nothing left to gain but still I push on."
