Basement What? – The Answer Lies WithinSeptember 2004
While "My Beer" may be their catchiest, most notorious song yet, Basement
What?
certainly has more than drunken party boy chants to offer (though "My
Beer"
is a fun, edgy pop song). The band's latest album, The Answer
Lies
Within, is replete with a strong alternative rock vibe, powerful,
semi-raspy vocals, and intriguing instrumentation that entices the
listener to
see them live. With Dave George on vocals and guitar, Nick Young on
guitar,
Pete Jacobs on bass, and Lou Grant on drums, the talents combine to
produce
ballads that could be easily compared to Lifehouse and Fuel.
"I smoke a pack/I sit and relax/And say everything will be fine
someday/I
wonder why/That warm sun/Never shines around my way/'Cause I don't
believe
in livin' my life on yesterday's sorrows/And I don't want to drown in
my tears
of tomorrow," from "Livin' Daydreams" just goes to prove that Basement
What? can
be more lyrically creative than what is heard in "My Beer": "My friends
came
over late last night/When I was gone they drank my Miller Lite…an
empty
fridge it’ll make you cry."
Basement What? undeniably will be known for more than just their
college beer
cheer, but until then, they certainly have me wanting to hear more,
feeling
driven to see them live, and craving a beer.
