| Comments | Imagine any songs by the bands Jet or The Darkness, now slow them down a bit and replace the male vocals with female ones. What you are now hearing in your head is the band Grain. Their album The Bad Years showcases great vocals and excellent musicianship in a tidy package. However, it was a bit too slow-paced for my taste. I was welcomed to the record with a snail-paced intro instrumental which definitely put me off and left me with a bad taste. Although a few of the following songs speed up the tempo (a bit), the record is quite mellow where tempo is concerned. One redeeming aspect of this record, for me, was the use of organ and piano. I was impressed, as is usually the case, with how well these two instruments melded with the songs. All in all, I would say that I was not OVERLY impressed or TERRIBLY disappointed with Grain's The Bad Years. If you prefer your music a bit low-key and enjoy bands like The White Stripes, Jet, and/or The Darkness, you would definitely enjoy this record. | |
