![]() | Pushing Red Buttons - Foreign Film or Tango Dance?
| Location | New York City | |
| Initial Impression | (Upon seeing the cover photo: hairy man in leather hot pants) Well, this should be interesting… | |
| Notable Lyric | "You should be on a couch somewhere…" – "M.A.W." | |
| Factoid | These guys must have missed the memo that singing in parallel octaves does not count as harmonizing. | |
| Serve With | Doritos and Pabst Blue Ribbon, served by your pothead friend who still lives in his parents’ basement (apologies to all potheads not living in basements). | |
| Comments | Okay, I understand that the most hotly contended
presidential race in
years is underway. Everyone has two cents to spit into the nearest
ear, and
it’s cool that people are motivated to put their thoughts into song.
Still,
you gotta make good music – Pushing Red Buttons loves their message,
but their
ideas fail to make up for what is otherwise a mediocre CD. All 12
tracks are
in tune, but the music is boring. It sounds like a modernized rip-off
of ideas
that were new when The Who was big. Nothing stands out as particularly
clever,
and that goes for the lyrics as well. Fellas, we’re all mad about how
the
world’s turning out – if you’re going to tread over the same tired
themes, you
have to do it in a more unique way. And "Love Jihad" was such a cool title for a song…
