Antigone Rising - From the Ground Up
|
| Location | New York area.
|
| Initial Impression | This album was originally only available through
Starbucks. Kind of a bummer for those of us who don't drink coffee or
support soul-less corporations.
|
| Notable Lyric | "Then on the air that drifted in the faded smell of denial/See,
I don't know so I won't ask/I think it's best that way/Can't be held
responsible for what you didn't say.” - “Longshot”
| | Factoid | “Don't Look Back” was co-written with Rob Thomas.
. |
| Serve With | Indigo Girls, early Sheryl Crow, and Melissa Etheridge.
|
| Comments | While some artists eschew "explaining" their art, preferring
to leave interpretation up to the viewer/listener, this CD booklet
contains a brief explanation of the meaning behind each song, which just
tickles me proverbially pink. This album was recorded "live," which
reminds of the MTV 'Unplugged' or VH1 'Storytellers' series. I suspect a
studio producer would steer the band toward one end of the spectrum or
another; crooning ballads or pop-rock princesses. Sure, "Open Hearts and
Doors" is a bit sappy, but everyone is allowed a slip-up now and again.
"Longshot", "Don't Look Back", "Better", "Rosita", and "Broken" are more
than enough to justify the purchase price.
