The Dave Rave Group - Everyday Magic
LocationCanada
Initial ImpressionFor some reason I was expecting some sort of Led Zep-esque tunes. Maybe it's that Dave Rave has a Robert Plant thing going on the cover of the CD -- that or Roy Orbison.
Notable Lyric"I said, what is a matter, your face is sadder and sadder." - "Love Fades"
FactoidThe band's 1989 release, Valentino's Pirates was known for being the first album recorded by a North American in Russia on a label called Melodiya. Oh, and hey, Dave plays a Gibson. We LOVE Gibson!

CommentsI still haven't had my second cup of coffee yet, but we'll see if I can't be somewhat coherent. Thankfully, since it's still fairly early, the vocals are smooth. I cannot tell you how often I've been made to suffer scary, lack-luster vocals. While I can appreciate that bad vocals seem to have caught on as a "style", it's a style I'd rather do without. So, along comes Dave to save the day. The Nick Lowe ("Jennifer Cries" and "Love Fades") comparison is laid out under the surface somewhere, and there's a soothing nature to the pop rock sound being presented, which also manages to swing up into a less polished punk feel ("Maryann") and then a fifties groove ("Help Me Please"), and a dash of blues ("Don't Know What To Do") as if trying to cover the gamut of genres. There seems to be a bit of something for everyone on this disc.
