Day of Infamy-Red AutumnOctober 2004
Okay, so these guys are young, let me just get that out of the way.
The
youngest member, King can den Berg is 11. This would not be so much
of a
surprise if this band were say, a manufactured pre-pubescent boy band.
But they
are anything but. This is a very talented alternative rock band. And I
say that
without feeling guilty!
Although the disc only contains three songs that are under four-and-a-half
minutes each, it shows unlimited potential! And I must say that upon
pushing
play on my CD player, the first song was not what I expected. With a
name like
"Day of Infamy", I expected some kind of death metal or nu-metal rap, I
know,
shame on me. But it was good!
The first track opens with almost a techno-like background and goes
into a
vocal harmony that would make the pretty boys of *N Sync cry (it is
good).
Eventually it lapses into an alterna-pop-rock tune that is very radio-friendly.
If I had to compare this band to anyone it would be early Stone Temple
Pilots or
perhaps even Silverchair (only with harder hitting riffs).
The final track is an instrumental, lasting only a minute-and-a-half.
Personally, I have never been a fan of the instrumental (as far as rock
music
is concerned). However, this song showcased this group's musical
potential and
ability. Opening with a piano, the song transitions into what sounds
almost
like the older punk bands (i.e. Ramones) with a fast and hard-hitting
drum
beat.
I was very impressed by this band. It certainly surprised and
shocked me
that they were all under the age of 19. If you are a fan of bands
such as
Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, or even Silverchair, then watch out
for this
band. I'm sure that they are going places.
