| Comments | Overall, Honeyhander prove a fine band on their debut, the
five-song Woolly Mannerisms. The quintet show off some cool
rock infused with electronic and post-punk flourishes on the songs
included, most featuring alluringly dark, sexy ambiances. Add to the
frequently mellow and druggy instrumentation and vibes (the "sunniest"
song happens to be the opener "Wear Out Your Muscles Mary"), the
seductive, distorted vocals seem a mixture of Rozz Williams (Christian
Death) and Jay Gordon (yes, I know, Score! Music's shameless
coverage of Orgy these past couple updates has been out of control, but
the comparison is true!). Best of all these dark, mysterious songs have
a nice danceable quality to them. It's hard not to at least bob your
head to this stuff - especially the final two offerings (which also are
the best), "Porcelain Veneers" and "Hiding Small Children in Cabinets"
(how GREAT is that title?!) This last song features awesome atmospheric
guitars that remind one of Scatter the Ashes. Not always a fan of dancey
stuff, I gotta tell you if it's not apparent already: I'm quite into
Honeyhander. Now as for their moniker - not so much.
