| Comments | There is a big difference between wearing your influences on your sleeve
and just plain aping someone. The Redwalls so badly try to emulate the
Beatles that it comes across as more than a little sad. It's sad because
they actually do have musical talent, as evidenced by the arrangements
on de nova, but the Redwalls are going to have to do something
really special in the very near future if they want to avoid being
written off as nothing more than a Beatles rip-off band. "Ready-made"
and "manufactured" are two terms that come to mind while listening to
the album. The CD booklet even forgoes printing the lyrics (no big loss,
though, as they too are cliché) in favor of a plethora of
cigarette-dangling, shaggy-haired, "hard-at-work-in-the-studio" shots.
At least they are seemingly unapologetic about what they are doing, as
the song "Front Page" may very well be the most blatant attempt at
trying to write a Beatles song in the history of music. Recycling is
good for the environment, not music.
