Coal Chamber - Giving The Devil His Due
LocationSoCal
Initial ImpressionMy take on Coal Chamber, in general, seems to be a little Nine Inch Nails, a little Lollipop Lust Kill, a little Stone Temple Pilots. That is, a little goth, a little electro, a little rock.
Notable Lyric"Remember the house that rock 'n roll built / Where four people lived? / That house, it took its toll / For some of you it was heartfelt, maybe heartfelt / For me, I sold my soul." Taken from the title track, one's left to wonder if he's describing his feelings about being a musician, or if he's alluding to the allegations that Coal Chamber is no more.
FactoidThe debate on whether or not they're actually broken up is in the air. While there's been no official statement (that I could find) to the contrary, it's widely held as fact that Coal Chamber disbanded. Vocalist Dez Fafara now fronts the band DevilDriver and the rest of the band are also partaking in other projects.
Serve WithOrgy. Seven of the tracks (the earlier, Coal Chamber-era ones, enlist the help of über-producer Jay Gordon.
CommentsRemixes, rarities, and B-sides, not to mention a handful of pre-debut demos, this 20-song CD, compiled and presented by Monte Conner, the man who signed them, covers Coal Chamber's three previous albums. It's all the songs you know and love, with a twist. Like watching your favorite movie, and then seeing an alternate ending. Not the same as a best-of, but definitely one for the die-hards.
