| Initial Impression | Press release describes the threesome as "pure punk-influenced power-pop." | |
| Notable Lyric | "New York City is how I feel/I call it home." | |
| Factoid | Some Christmas tunes they recorded were featured on "Small Town Christmas Special", which aired on A&E in 2003. | |
| Serve With | My friend Jeff Two Man's awesome AWESOME collection of LPs (that appropriately takes up his entire living room...). | |
| Comments | On their oft-raucous eight-song album, AM show they're more than capable of straddling a variety of musical styles, as their energetic and spirited sound combines elements of the aforementioned mid- to late- '70s punk (the stripped-down and dirty "Bloodshot", "In The City (NYC)") and power-pop as well as garage (the jangly "Far Fall"), and indie (the moody, lighter "Quiet N DayGlo"). They kinda get a little Gang of Four/Wire groove on with the bass-driven, disco-danceable, yet raw opener "Life for Sale". However, the one song I'm totally diggin' right now is the unsurpassable "Sex N Drugs", which is a little laid-back, trippy, dark, melodic, and, uh, sexy - definitely THE track of the album. It doesn't hurt the record AT ALL that the intense vocals of frontman James Jones are reminiscent of the great Guy Picciotto (Rites of Spring/Fugazi), either! | |
